Iron + Copper Sulfate

On Monday the 2/9/24, my group had received a beaker of copper sulfate. Then we received three nails, we sanded 2 nails and left the nail that was galvanised. One of the other nails were coated in vaseline and the other was left sanded. Then we put all three nails into the copper sulfate.

3/9/24. We took a look at thee nails and the nails were corrosed.

Decomposition reactions

We learned to decompose reactions

Explain decomposition reactions.

Reactant + Reactant = product or Reactant = Product + Product

CaCO3 = Calcium = 1, Carbon = 1 and Oxygen = 3

We burned a white powder that was soft and had no smell called calcium carbonate. After we burned it, it turns into half black and white powder.

When we heated the CaCO3 (Calcium carbonate) and held the test tube above the Bunsen burner, then after a while we held a splint at the top of the test tube, after a few tries we realise that the flame kept going out from the carbon dioxide.

Carbon dioxide was given off.

Hockey Pokey

Last week Friday, we made Hockey pokey for science. I did not stay long because I had a sore stomach that morning. But, to start the day off we were to “Explain the ATOMIC structure of an Atom.”

We learned that the rings on the outside of the nucleus is called the “Valance rings.”

Protons give a positive charge = +

Neutrons give no charges = 0

Electrons give a negative charge = –

Co2 = Carbon dioxide, there is 3 total atoms but only 2 types of atoms

H2Co3 = Hydrogen bi – carbon, 6 total atoms but 3 types
